Our BBQ

Triple Crown Classic BBQ Sauce is the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and smoky flavors. It makes a killer marinade or sauce for slow-roasted meats, a rich base for baked beans, or an excellent everyday condiment for vegetarian and vegan delights (like roasted veggies or baked potatoes!).

Created from scratch and refined to perfection over 15 years, Richard Schaaf entered his BBQ sauce at the Minnesota State Fair, where it would go on to win three blue ribbons (1994, 1997, 2001). Following these awards, word began to spread as increasing numbers of friends and co-workers enjoyed home made batches of Richard’s tasty brew. Triple Crown BBQ Sauce made it to retail shelves and commercial kitchens beginning in 2009.

In October of 2012 Andy Wright (pictured above) became the steward of the Triple Crown BBQ sauce legacy. His first steps included ingredient upgrading, moving production from Wisconsin to Minnesota and new branding. A year and a half later, in March of 2014, Triple Crown BBQ Sauce became USDA Certified Organic! A year and a half later, in October of 2015, both Triple Crown Cayenne and Classic Limited Harvest Edition (made with locally-grown tomatoes) were introduced.

In 2016 Triple Crown BBQ Sauces began to be exported to Sweden, Denmark and Taiwan. In early 2017 the first shipment to the United Arab Emirates was made! We are proud to see our Minnesota-made sauces sailing around the globe!

The second half of 2017 was great for Triple Crown as we expanded our base and increased our geographic footprint across the mid-west including Minnesota (of course!), Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Nebraska, the Dakotas and Missouri. We also introduced two new sauces, Black Garlic (Good Food Award winner in 2019) and Hickory Bourbon. In addition, we have continued our international reach and by mid-2018 initiated a second production site in Europe! Additional export markets now include Japan, Iceland and Ukraine.

The big news of 2019 is our category win at the largest and most prestigious sauce contest in the USA, the American Royal. We knew our Classic was a winner but this seals the deal!
